Wear an old shirt you are not afraid to stain.
Smear a thin layer of petroleum jelly on your skin along your hair line.This will prevent your skin from staining if it comes in contact with the hair dye. You may also want to put a layer on the top of your ears.
Separate hair into four sections by gathering your hair in a half ponytail. Clip up the top part. Separate the bottom half into two sections -- the left section and the right section. Remove the clip and separate the top part into two sections -- the left section and the right section.
