Finding matching colours for many items is series of trials and errors. Finding the matching colours to your car's interior trim is simply a matter of finding your vehicle identification number. The vehicle identification number, or VIN, is found on every car manufactured. It is 17 numbers that tell you everything you need to know about the history of your car, including the colour of your trim.
Look for the VIN by the make of your car. General Motors puts its VIN in the boot; Ford puts its number on the driver door jamb. Each make of car is different. Your car's VIN is also on your vehicle registration.

Look below the VIN on the same sticker for a series of numbers and letters and at the bottom of the sticker. On most makes, the trim code will be located in these numbers and letters.
Look for the code INT TR, INT or even just I for interior paint. Below or even next to the code is a number. Each car manufactured will have its own code and numbers for its paint. An auto bodyworks garage or store can tell you which number is needed for your car by decoding the number for the right paint.
