In order to convert a PAR file to an API, a conversion program must be used. Several of these are available online as free trial downloads.
Download and install Need 4 Video Converter 7.0 (see Resources).
Run the conversion program on the desktop. Select "File," then "Open" from the top menu bar. Choose a PAR video file for conversion. Click "Open."
Select "AVI--Audio Video Interleave" in the "Output file:" field. Click the "Browse" button next to the "Save to:" field. Select a target destination for the converted file. Click "OK."

Click the red "Convert" button at the bottom of the main window to begin the conversion process.

Select "AVI (*.avi)" from the "Profile:" menu. Click the "Output Folder" button. Select a target destination folder for the converted AVI file. Click "OK."
Click the "Encode" button to begin the conversion process.
