Non-stick cookware is a staple in most kitchens because of its ability to let food slide off and its ease in cleanup. Perhaps you've overheated some food or used the wrong cooking utensils and caused damage to your non-stick pans. You don't necessarily have to throw them out if you have a chip or scratch. Thorough cleanup and some non-stick pan repair spray can make your Teflon and Calphalon pans look and cook like new again.

Wash your non-stick pan with warm water and washing up liquid. Allow pots and pans to soak if stuck-on food is a problem. Rinse the cookware thoroughly after washing to rid the pan of all soap residue. Dry with a soft towel. Allow the non-stick pan to air dry for at least two hours to ensure it is completely free of moisture.

Spray the surface of the non-stick pan with non-stick cookware repair spray. This is available from online retailers and in some kitchen supply shops. Spray evenly to ensure the pan has the same coating thickness all over. Allow the pans to rest at room temperature for 30 minutes after spraying.

Heat your oven to 260 degrees C (500 degrees F). Avoid higher temperatures which can cause non-stick coatings to break down, releasing toxic compounds. Place your non-stick cookware in the oven to bake for 45 minutes. Remove the pans and allow them to cool completely. Wash the pans once again before cooking in them.

TIP

Avoid further damage to your non-stick cookware by using only wooden utensils.
