Tuna refers to many species of fish that live in the ocean. Tuna fish have pink to dark-red flesh instead of the white flesh that many other fish have. Tuna fish are either caught in the wild or raised on fish farms. Instead of purchasing tuna in a can, buy fresh tuna steaks. While tuna steaks grill well, you can also bake them in the oven.

Place a sheet of aluminium inside a baking dish. Spray the aluminium foil with non-stick spray.
Heat the oven to 175 degrees Celsius (350 degrees Fahrenheit).
Pat the tuna steaks dry with paper towels. Brush both sides of the tuna steak with olive oil. Add your preferred seasonings.
Bake the tuna steaks in the middle rack of the oven for 15 to 20 minutes, or until they reach your preferred doneness level. The tuna will flake easily with a fork when the fish is ready to eat.
TIP
If you use larger tuna steaks, they will need to cook longer in the oven. Add seasonings like salt, pepper or basil leaves to the tuna steaks to add flavour. Thaw the tuna fish in the refrigerator or it will take up to twice as long to bake.
WARNING
The tuna diet leads to a high amount of heavy metals, such as mercury, that reside in flesh of these fish. Pregnant women, nursing mothers and children should limit the amount of tuna that they consume due to the high levels of mercury.
