Match stick crafts are simple to make but most projects require patience and dexterity.
The best match sticks to use for hobbies and crafts are headless match sticks. Otherwise, you need to burn the heads before construction in order to make the project safe.

One simple project to make out of match sticks is a jewellery box. This six-sided structure is something kids can easily make and decorate.
Spread out a sheet of waxed paper on a flat work surface. The waxed paper helps keep the glue away from the work surface.
Make a wall panel for one side of your jewellery box by stacking a vertical row of horizontally placed headless matchsticks equal to the desired height of the jewellery box. Headless match sticks are available in packages of 10,000. Each stick is 1-1/2 inches long.
- Make a wall panel for one side of your jewellery box by stacking a vertical row of horizontally placed headless matchsticks equal to the desired height of the jewellery box.
Pour out a small amount of craft glue onto a section of the waxed paper. Dip a disposable artist's brush into the glue. Spread a thin layer of glue onto the edges of the match sticks that are facing up.
Brush a thin layer of glue onto one edge of a single match stick. Place the single match stick vertically across the horizontal match sticks at the bottom left corner of the vertical stack. The single match stick is like a support beam for the wall as it runs perpendicular across the horizontal sticks. One match will not hold the wall together, so place as many vertical sticks as needed to cover the height of the jewellery box wall. Stagger the placement of the match sticks from the bottom left corner up to the top right corner.
Repeat Steps 2, 3 and 4 to build enough wall panels to make the desired width of each side of the jewellery box. For example, if the desired dimensions of your jewellery box is 9 inches wide by 3-inches deep, you will need 12 wall panels built to the desired height dimensions for two sides, six for each side, and two wall panels built to the desired height dimensions for the two end sides, two for each side.
Assemble the individual sides of the jewellery box by joining the match stick panels together. Line the panels for one side in a horizontal row. Glue Popsicle/Ice-lolly sticks across the panels to join them together. Allow the glue to dry.
Join the sides of the jewellery box together with craft glue along the corners. Let the glue dry. You should now have a four sided box.

Measure the length and width of the opening in the centre of the four sides. Repeat Steps 2, 3 and 4 to build panels to fit the space. Build enough panels to make a top and a bottom for the jewellery box.
Join the bottom panels together with Popsicle sticks. Glue the bottom panel to the four sides with craft glue. Let the glue dry.
Join the top panels together with Popsicle sticks. Let the glue dry.

Paint the outside and inside of the match stick jewellery box with acrylic paint. Let the paint dry.
Decorate the top of the jewellery box with flat backed cabochons. Attach the colourful glass with craft glue. Let the glue dry.
